Monday 14th January: The Northern Ireland Advanced Composites and Engineering Centre
(NIACE) has acquired new innovative software to further assist participant companies in
carrying out specialist research.
The 3D modelling desktop software, known as SpaceClaim Engineer, is one of the world’s
fastest and most innovative systems, and will help engineers and analysts who are based
at NIACE Centre at Airport Road in Belfast, to create and prepare intricate 3D designs as
prototypes for analysis for possible future manufacture.
Pete Hinds, Strategic Business Director at BASE, which is one of the participating
companies at NIACE said, “The use of SpaceClaim in our Research & Development projects
should allow us to communicate concepts more quickly and easily with other engineers and
teams with whom we’re collaborating. We can share our design ideas and get rapid feedback
from production, tooling and procurement, and incorporate their suggestions and feedback
quickly into the development of new products.”
Dr Scott King, NIACE General Manager said, “NIACE was set up with the aim of helping
Northern Ireland’s manufacturing sector grow and develop its capabilities, so we can
compete more successfully on a national and global scale. So far the centre has attracted
8 companies from various manufacturing sectors who are all working collaboratively on
projects. Making this state of the art software available here will we hope assist existing
participants and attract new companies to join us.”
